Thanks to you, our Christmas will be more comforting

During this holiday season, when solidarity takes on a special meaning, I would like to share my story. We don’t know each other, but we’re in the same family: people involved with the Fondation Institut de gériatrie de Montréal. Caring individuals who want to provide the best to Quebec’s elderly.

My name is Demetrio. For over nine years now, I have been visiting my beloved wife, Laura, every day. She lives at the Institut universitaire de gériatrie de Montréal.

Over the past nine years, I have seen how much your donation can change everything.

Since we first met back in 1985, I fell in love with Laura’s radiant smile and her joy for life. We lived a happy and fulfilling life together. But on June 12, 2016, our life was turned upside down. Laura had a stroke at age 60. It was a Sunday. I can remember it clearly, as we had spent the night dancing at our nephew’s wedding the day before. Laura loved to dance so much, while I loved watching her dance.

I never imagined we would undergo such an ordeal. But the kindness and dedication of the doctors, nurses, and physiotherapists eased my pain. With the support of the Foundation, the medical teams provide her with the best care and utmost attention.

Laura and I on our wedding day in 1986. The happiest day of my life!

By making a donation, you get to be the medical teams’ right hand.

Today, Laura barely speaks or moves. But every morning, when I go into her room, her eyes scan for me and her look is enough to tell me that she’s happy that I’m there. This silent but powerful bond gives me the strength to carry on.

I see the devotion and kindness of the staff towards my wife, and it deeply touches me. Thanks to your generosity, the excellent care she receives—as does every patient at the Institute—benefits from additional support from the Foundation.

Like every year for the past nine years, I will be spending Christmas at the Institute with my Laura. This year, you will also be in my heart.

I wish you a wonderful holiday season with your loved ones.

Demetrio Lagana

P.S. Your support gives courage to all those who continue to love despite the hardship—just like me. Thank you for your renewed support today!
