Welcome to the “Seniors, in need of role models” project page

The Fondation Institut de gériatrie de Montréal is delighted to be associated with Mrs. Janette Bertrand in a unifying project that appeals to all Quebecers. The aim of this initiative is to shine the spotlight on the many seniors who have had, or still have, an inspiring career, one that instills pride.

The idea of finding inspirational role models came from Janette Bertrand herself. “I’m frequently approached on the street and told that I’m a role model, that people would like to grow old like me and remain as active as I am at my age. Of course, that’s nice to hear, but it made me realize that I’m certainly not the only one who can be a role model for seniors,” says Ms. Bertrand.

“Are you 70 or over? Are you a role model for your family and friends? Be one for seniors too! Tell me how you’re a role model. If you’ve found ways to live happily into old age, share your findings with me. What secret have you discovered about living a fulfilling life? What message would you like to leave to the elderly and the less fortunate? Be generous, become a role model. Older people need role models!

Do you know a role model, mother, father, grandmother, grandfather, etc. aged 70 or over? Tell me why this person impresses you, why you follow their example. Let me know how this role model has changed your life for the better, why you admire him or her, and why you admire him or her. Elderly men and women need role models.
